Linux hosting

Linux Logo for Linux hosting pageWe offer hosting on various platforms, one of which is Linux.

The Shared Hosting we offer is on virtual servers which run using the CentOS version of Linux.  CentOS is an enterprise grade version which has a great reputation for performance and stability – which is what we all want!

We offer a variety of standard packages: the most commonly requested ones are MySQL, Python and PHP but we are happy to provide others such as PHPDev, Perl, Ruby, Zend, CGI Scripting or SSI if you need them.

If you need a Windows server, then please look at our Windows hosting page.

If you are not sure whether to choose Windows or Linux, then please visit our Linux or Windows hosting page to help you choose.  To some extent, it doesn’t matter, in the sense that both operating systems will work on webservers, but there are significant differences.  If you are aiming to get your site up and running as quickly as possible, then Linux tends to have more off-the-shelf solutions available, many of which are free.  So it is good for setting up blogs, content management systems and discussion boards.  Windows, while it can do all of those things, tends to be aimed at larger websites, perhaps with larger databases.  If you aren’t sure, then please ask!

There are many factors to consider when you are choosing a hosting provider, and the operating system is just one of them (although most providers offer most OS options these days).  We really don’t mind which operating system you opt for in the end.  But whichever it does turn out to be, please rest assured that we manage our data centres 24 x 7 x 365, so you can count on us to provide great service.
